Drought Tolerant Plants – a talk by Barry Gayton for Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society

Barry Gayton of Desertworld Garden, Santon Downham, will talk us through a range of drought tolerant plants for our gardens. The talk will take place in the Jerningham Room on the first floor of The Costessey Centre. Members & affiliated society members: £2.50 per person, payable on the door. Late Autumn Show – Norfolk & Norwich Horticultural Society

St Faiths Centre Horsham St Faith, Norwich, Norfolk

Our last show of 2023 will feature Chrysanthemums, Floral Art, Pot Plants, Cut Flowers, Fruit, Vegetables and Cookery classes.  Special classes for juniors, affiliated societies and novice exhibitors. Free admission, all welcome.  Plants and second-hand gardening books for sale.  Refreshments available.

Annual General Meeting

All members and representatives of our affiliated societies are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting.  We will be discussing our activities for year ended 30 September 2023 and looking forward to future events.  We will also make our All Shows trophy awards for 2023. Arrive from 1.30pm for tea/coffee and the AGM will start at 2pm.  There will be an opportunity to socialise after the meeting.

Coach trip to Alpine Garden Society Early Spring Show & Plant Fair

We have organised a coach trip to the Alpine Garden Society Early Spring Show & Plant Fair at Chelmsford Racecourse on Saturday 2 March 2024.  There are a few seats available, please Contact Us if you are interested in coming with us. This is a new venue for this indoor show and many nurseries and other societies will be attending.  Please follow the link for details. Coach cost £20 per person.  AGS members get free entry to the show, non-members pay £5 on the door. We will depart from Hethersett Village Hall, Back Lane, Hethersett, NR9 3JJ at 8am.  A second pick up will be made on the main road in Long Stratton, from where we will travel directly to the show, arriving around 9.30am.  We will leave at 2.30pm, arriving back at around 4pm.    

Coach trip to Green Island Gardens, Essex

A day trip for members and affiliated society members with Avanti Coach Travel to Green Island Gardens in Essex. We have sufficient expressions of interest to fill a coach plus a waiting list. Departing from Easton College at 9.15am and picking up in Long Stratton on route. Arriving at Green Island Gardens around 11am and departing at 3pm.  Arriving back at Easton College around 4.45pm. Cost £40 for members and affiliates.  Price includes hot drink on arrival followed by a lunch of soup and a roll, cake and hot drink.

How to grow Vegetables for Exhibition – Part 1

Norwich

One of our most experienced members in vegetable growing will talk about and give guidance on growing vegetables for exhibition.  Session open to society members and members of our affiliated societies, free of charge. This is the first of three sessions.  No requirement to attend all sessions - each one will concentrate on action at the actual time of the session. This will take place in the Norwich area, to the west of the city.  Please contact the General Secretary if you wish to take part.

Spring Show

The Costessey Centre Longwater Lane, Costessey

Our Spring show will feature Daffodils, cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables, cookery and floral art. Plant and second-hand gardening book sales.  Refreshments available. All welcome.  Free admission, donations welcome.
